The game never stops.......

GB Masters Basketball established as BMBA in 1995 is today the country’s leading organisation supporting masters basketball participation with an annual tournament for women over 35 and men over 40 and over 50.

For 20 years the association has provided the platform for its men and women members to continue to display their skills and talents in an international environment. Whilst the majority of teams hail from the United Kingdom and Ireland the annual tournament draws interest and participation from teams around the globe.

Promoting well-being and activity for the over-age athlete the association is a benchmark for all over-age sports enthusiasts. Basketball has long been regarded as one of the world’s premier team sports and GB Masters is committed to continue to promote the sport and its ideals to a national and international audience.

The GB Masters Blue Ribbon annual tournament, which began back in 1995 at Eston Sports Centre in Teeside, has blossomed and has been promoted in 14 different cities around the entire UK mainland and Ireland. In 2015 the event was held in Leeds for first time. With 59 teams competing there was in excess of 600 registered members with ages ranging from 35 to 76. This year we moved south to Brighton where, although only 49 teams, again over 600 people registered (including players, officials, coaches).  We introduced a new O60 (men) and O45 (women) category this year and hope to build up these competitions over the coming years.

Although the annual tournament is the undoubted highlight of the year for members, in recent years the Association has increasingly become involved in business associated with the development of masters’ basketball throughout the UK as well as establishing links with many other international masters’ organisations.

GB Masters is operated by a committee of volunteers, many of whom are also participants in the Annual Tournament. Their enthusiasm and commitment should provide a successful future for all that the organisation undertakes as well as promoting many more memorable British Masters events.

Masters basketball has grown not only in the UK but now there are tournaments all over the world.  Don't forget to look up Dublin Masters (May), Galway Masters (Nov), Kerry Masters (Feb), Santander Masters, Spain (June), Malta Masters (Sept) Strathclyde Masters (April).
